That was one of the very interesting question raised by my Operation Research professor. I told him that it has pros and cons. He just lol, and say yeah, well we are in game theory class, every issue have winning feature and losing factor. By the way game theory is a decision making methodology in operation management, its not about video games.
That very question lingers in me for a very long time. Sometimes I m glad seeing ppol added value to themselves through the technology of internet. I had also seen many ppol wasting their precious time planting plants, taking care of restaurant, reading walls, playing ninja mobwar etc etc whole day long as though its an addiction. Its sad to see internet is not fully utilised for the good of himself/herself. I am not against facebooking, youtubing, googling. However, do it in moderation n not all the time. Time dont wait. blink of an eye, my sis daughter is about one year old... Blink of an eye we will grow old, what had we done to make full use of our time.. ? Facebooking and farming out billions of $$ in facebook apps? I also do all of these, but i dont do it because i need to, but for leisure n small fraction of my time...
Back to the question... I believe the birth of internet, being a blessing or a bane, really depends on microlevel; individuals, and at the same time culture.
Individuals
An individual can be very successful through partial support from the internet. Such as people who learns a great deal from tutorial, youtube helps, diy , information n knowledge, ideas and innovation, making money thru them, and put full use into their life. Of coz there are also great deal of individuals failed to make full use of their prime time, wasting it all by engrossing in those narrow minded non informational games and internet.
In macrolevel, i can definitely say that as of the trend today, in Malaysia, internet is a curse to majority of the citizen. Why? They do not make full use of it... only narrow mindedly utilising it for entertainment after work , or worse during work. If the trend remains, the competitiveness of Malaysian will lack behind other cultures, rendering us becoming non- valuable workforce, unable to stay competitive because of the education system in Malaysia and also the utilisation of their time to gain value.
I had been to US forums, i m not the type who idolises any culture or men, but i m perplexed, by their enthusiasm/hobbies in increasing their knowledge and their understanding.. etc. There are ppol in US who build rocket as hobbies, and they learn more physics in forums than in ur physic classes. There are also groups of engineers who spend their time forumming and building DIY compressors, programmings that serve a purpose. small sect of LYN had some form of good headings i believe n hope..
As a conclusion, i am not generalising every malaysian, i pointed out the microlevel and macrolevel point of view. It is when the summation of individuals in malaysia point towards the bad side of internet than to the good. i hope that somebody n many ppol can prove me wrong about our internet culture in Msia. By the way The song i am attaching speaks to many of us in our prime time; 100 years
He had been wasting his precious time in 15 as though u can buy time again. During 22-45 he was too busy organizing his busy life and family to cared of, he loss track of time. By 45, he began to realise, however its difficult to gain time back, most likely he s in depression(mid life crisis). Hop Hop blink blink 67 ad, the man grown in wisdom and wiser, however time flies. Another instant hes 99, just waiting to die, he was advising the 15 years old that still have precious time, that instead of losing those time, choose to use ur time wisely.. If not will regret... Catch those word reflect on our life behind, now and future, u will think twice. By the way, how many ppol got 100 years to live by ? so start maybe the numeral number in lyric must alter abit to what u think u have... cold hard fact, not being cynical.
